Arslanbob and the walnut forests

Trek from Kara Suu to Arslanbob. Arslanbob itself lies at 1700 m, the trees  with their dome shaped crowns atop two meter thick trunks, can reach a height of 30 meters and are found growing wild on mountain slopes and along river banks at an altitude of between 1000 and 1800 meters above Sea Level. Some walnut trees are hundred years old and it is not clear how the trees arrived here; they originated in Malaysia. Nuts from the area were exported along the Silk Road. The whole region is like also boasts many different variety of fruits.

Programme

Day 1: Transfer from Bishkek to Kara-Kul, town under the Toktogul Reservoir.
Day 2: Start of trek, go up along Kara Suu river, night in tent near river Unkur (from 1200 to 1500 m).
Day 3: Further go up to Kara Suu lake (2000 m), 8 km rest and prepare for the next day, night in tents.
Day 4: Go up to pass Kymyz Bel, 6 km, (altitude 3200 m) go down along river Kymyz Suu, 10 km, night in tents.
Day 5: Go down along the river to the Kara Unkur river, along Kara Unkur down, night near Kara Bulak river, 10 km.
Day 6: Go up along Kara Bulak river, cross small pass (2500 m), go down to Arslanbob, night in turbaza.
Day 7: One day rest in Arslanbob, look at the waterfall/surroundings, etc. night in turbaza.
Day 8: Back to Bishkek, or further to Osh (and to Uzbekistan).
